It
was born out of necessity.
Whilst the advances in IT hardware and software over the last decade have
brought within affordable reach the tools of the audio visual trade, the skill
sets and experience required to create, shoot and edit a video have remained
the province of professional, and hence expensive, practitioners. Sadly, their
services seldom come cheap. And in the competitive world of music marketing,
getting a decent music video can become a major dent to the promo budget.
And so it was that the partners in the Firebird collective realised that individual
skill sets, aptitudes, experience and facilities built up and used over the
years could be brought together to provide an in-house a/v facility.
Scripts written on Final Draft can be shot on DV and edited on Final Cut Pro
time-coded to soundtracks composed using Logic. We won't pretend that the
result could be a Godzilla, but then neither will the cost. Sometimes you
just need a piece that does the job, and looks the part. And no matter what
the production budget, there will never be any substitute for a good idea.
And that's the only point from which we will consider starting.
